On this products homepage listed in the information panel above it does not mention the product is commercial it in fact has “Download Freeware” on the page with no mention of buy or register… is this a commercial program giveaway where the vendor is scamming visitors with a bait and switch or is this a giveaway of a Freeware program? Someone is deceiving us is it GAOTD or Minitool? Don’t forget to select custom installation to have the choice to opt out of the telemetry customer experience improvement program which WILL transmit details about your system configuration and your usage to them… Note the giveaway is for version 3.8 but the current release version on their site is 3.9
According to the information panel this is supposed to be a 64bit application BUT the default installation path offered is C:\Program Files (x86) which is supposed to be exclusively for 32bit applications NOT 64bit applications… Also the setup.exe is both a downloader for this program and adware for a couple of their other programs they want you to try and buy…. so be careful what you click to affirm! The downloaded installer vc-free.exe just short of 70MBytes is a 64bit application installed into the wrong folder hierarchy as described above and downloads 4.9 NOT 4.8 and of course like almost all chinese commercial developers they are stealing GPLv3 licensed FFMPEG.ORG binaries and illegally distributing them in a closed source GUI as well as including VLC binaries too which probably should not be incorporated into a closed source commercial product without prominent attribution to the original developers. For some unknown reason it tries to create a subfolder in the logged in users DOCUMENTS folder called “MiniTool Video Converter” That should be in the users “Videos” folder after all this is a Video converter and downloader not a Document converter and downloader… The program WILL NOT START unless you allow it to create the unwanted extra folder in the users Documents folder messing up real-time Documents backup job and requiring it to be paused and modified to exclude the unwanted contents of the Documents\MiniTool Video Converter” folder corrupting the backup set and then restarting the real-time backup set! Minitool are lying, it’s NOT Freeware but Freemium… certain low performance features are FREE but useless like the Basic AI subtitling model produces garbage subtitles on the video I presented it and the standard and advanced AI models are purchase/registered only options. I presume the same applies to the other AI functions… of course these are local AI models so do not use any of the vendors cloud resources apart from the initial download of the models so should NOT be funded by a rental model IMHO. BTW This is an unauthorised clone of to-days giveawayoftheday.com giveaway, you can get it there too.

Another closed source GUI illegally distributing pirated FFMPEG binaries and passing them off as if they knew something about video encoding and rented out like they do any dev work other than just downloading a new build of FFMPEG binaries and tweak the version number of their GUI but no real changes to their code! Scammer Chinese developer build the FFMPEG using LGPLv3 license with the feature restrictions and supply a copy of the LGPLv3 license and give proper attribution to the fine developers and the many thousands of contributed developer hours they put in that you have stolen!
