Works fine, however the shredder apps provided by Ashampoo, Ascomp and O&O are miles better, in terms of useability and reviewing the files to be shredded.
Using the context menu, you cannot select which option to shred, and you cannot review the files that are to be shredded, unlike with the three I previously mentioned.
Using the app, you cannot drag and drop files, you have to select files in the app’s file picker or use the context menu.
This app comes across like a typical chinese app, polished and pleasant looking UI, but lacking in certain areas compared to other brands.
If you don’t have a lifetime file shredder app or using an old one and wish to update, get this, if you do have a file shredder then theres no reason to get it.
I cannot find out how to select the default erasure method for context menu file and folder overwriting eraser… manual only shows how to select it for drive erasure… NOTE if you have VSS protecting your systems state by system restore/previous versions overwrite erasure will NOT securely overwrite the data as VSS will copy the overwritten data to the VSS store for the creation of the next restore point. Also I installed this giveaway over an older 4.x version under Vista and this version accepted the old license. Also on SSD systems there is no advantage in using greater than a single pass of zeros overwrite method. Some SSD firmware look for zeros sector writes and perform an internal TRIM command on that sector but more passes with random or other characters just exhaust the pool of spare pages of FLASH memory and waste the limited number of erase/write cycles. There appears to be no version history for this product and documented statements about how they handle cluster-tips when clearing free space or erasing a file.
Tried installing this on Windows 10 latest patch level and the main.exe program will NOT stay running, it pops up then immediately closes! So cannot access any settings view any logs nada… the context menu option to erase with aweeraser succeeds but cannot be sure what method it used and cannot see the log without an sqlite3 database browser application to interrogate the DataBase.db file in the install folder which can be deleted and a new folder created in that folder and named as DataBase.db which WILL prevent future logging and unwanted extra writes to the database because it’s a folder now not a file. NO errors are generated when the logging fails 🙂
Over all though under Windows 10… FAIL!
